On 27 Feb 2019, Canadian aerospace giant Bombardier announced an S$85 million investment to quadruple the size of its Singapore service centre, as part of efforts to enhance its position in the Asia-Pacific region. Located at Seletar Aerospace Park, the 9,620-square-metre facility that was opened in 2014 will grow to 40,000 square metres by 2020.
The expanded service centre will include a 3,500-square-metre paint facility, advanced interior finishing capabilities, and a broader suite of component, repair and overhaul services. It will also boast heavy structural and composite repair capabilities, alongside an integrated parts depot. The centre will be able to support more than 2,000 visits a year.
Mr Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Bombardier’s Vice President and General Manager, Customer Service, said the expanded centre will "bring industry-leading aircraft availability, faster turnarounds and greater convenience and peace of mind to Bombardier's growing customer base in Asia". He added that the expansion is a key building block in Bombardier’s drive to enhance the accessibility of its original equipment manufacturer expertise for customers worldwide, and to solidify its position as a leader in aftermarket services in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr Tan Kong Hwee, Executive Director (Capital Goods), Singapore Economic Development Board, said Bombardier’s investment “is testament to our attractiveness as an aerospace hub, and our ability to capture growth opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region”. He added that EDB looks forward to forging stronger ties with companies like Bombardier, to grow the sector and create more good jobs for Singaporeans.
