The Smart Industry Readiness Index
13 November 2020
The Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) was created in Singapore, in partnership with a network of leading technology companies, consultancy firms, and industry, and academic experts. SIRI comprises a suite of frameworks and tools to help manufacturers – regardless of size and industry – start, scale, and sustain their manufacturing transformation journeys. SIRI covers the three core elements of Industry 4.0: Process, Technology, and Organisation.
As part of the World Economic Forum’s Global SIRI Initiative, the International Centre for Industrial Transformation (INCIT) was established in 2021 to bring SIRI to the next level. INCIT is a new, independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that will take over management and coordination of the SIRI programme. Supported by the Forum and other international organizations, INCIT will work closely with partners from both the public and private sectors to catalyse industrial transformation at a global scale.
Today, SIRI has been adopted internationally by both multinational corporations (MNCs) and small, medium enterprises (SMEs), with nearly 600 manufacturing companies across 30 different countries having completed the Official SIRI Assessment (OSA)

SIRI identifies 3 fundamental building blocks of Industry 4.0: Technology, Process, and Organisation. All 3 building blocks must be considered to harness the full potential of Industry 4.0. Underpinning the 3 building blocks are 8 key pillars, which represent critical aspects that companies must focus on to become future-ready organisations.
Finally, the 3 building blocks and 8 pillars map onto 16 dimensions, which are areas of assessment that companies can use to evaluate the current Industry 4.0 readiness of their facilities.

The Assessment Matrix is the world’s first self-diagnostic Industry 4.0 tool that helps companies globally – regardless of size and industry – determine how to start, scale and sustain their Industry 4.0 transformation. The tool breaks down each of the 16 SIRI Dimensions into 6 progressive bands of maturity. Companies can use the Assessment Matrix to evaluate their current digital maturity, benchmark themselves against known scores of other companies and identify potential gaps in their transformation.

The Prioritisation Matrix is a management planning tool that helps companies identify high-priority SIRI Dimensions that would deliver greatest impact to their organisation. This tool was developed with the support of knowledge partners McKinsey & Company, Siemens, SAP and TÜV SÜD, and was launched on 1st April 2019 at Hannover Messe.
