Singapore as the region's premier Industry 4.0 platform to catalyse industry transformation
As part of Singapore's Committee on the Future Economy report, advanced manufacturing was identified as a key driver of Singapore's future economic growth.
A Boston Consulting Group study predicted that advanced manufacturing could add S$36 billion (US$26 billion) in total manufacturing output, boost labour productivity by 30 per cent, and create 22,000 new jobs in Singapore by 2024.
The Singapore Government has launched a number of initiatives to address this opportunity. For instance, Singapore has dedicated S$3.2 billion (US$2.3 billion) under the Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2020 plan to support research in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, and has also launched the SkillsFuture Series for Advanced Manufacturing to provide industry-relevant training for the workforce.
ITAP will complement these national initiatives. It provides a regional platform for leading manufacturers and technology suppliers to showcase and discover cutting-edge technologies, identify potential partners for co-innovation, and convenes industry leaders to share success stories and best practices in Asia for global adoption.
Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Mr S Iswaran said: "The Committee on the Future Economy (CFE) had emphasised Singapore's commitment to develop a globally-competitive manufacturing hub. In that regard, Deutsche Messe's partnership with SingEx Group to stage the Asian edition of the HANNOVER MESSE in Singapore is a welcome development. It will help to showcase emerging technologies and catalyse the adoption of advanced manufacturing in Singapore, by bringing together global thought leaders and key industry stakeholders. The event will also be a significant boost to our business events pipeline."
