In its fourth edition, the "Southeast Asia’s Green Economy 2023 Report: Cracking the Code" builds on previous reports, which assessed the region’s green economy potential and developed a practical action plan to capture the corresponding economic opportunities.

The 2023 report now seeks to track the region’s progress and provide insights to unlock SEA’s potential in the transition to renewable energy and in nature-based solutions.

The report covers the following:

  • The critical role that Southeast Asia has in contributing to global climate change and decarbonisation efforts;
  • The region’s rising commitments to net zero targets, with four governments raising climate commitments, seven considering carbon pricing measures, and a four-fold increase in corporate commitments to set science-based targets;
  • The unique challenges in the path towards decarbonisation, such as the need to balance between economic growth and emissions reductions;
  • The untapped opportunities, especially in clean energy and nature-based solutions;
  • Charts a trajectory with quickly implementable near-term proven solutions which would ensure that the region goes back on track to meeting its 2030 goals; and
  • Recommends that public-private partnerships, in both energy solutions such as grid infrastructure and incentives, and nature solutions such as forest conservation and promoting carbon markets, are the keys to unlocking action in the energy transition.
