MediaTek has been in Singapore since 2004, and develops highly-integrated, ultra-low-power system-on-chip devices here. The Singapore R&D center is one of the company’s most advanced centers globally.
As the world’s third largest fabless semiconductor company, MediaTek develops chips that are shaping the digital age. The company’s products are used in a wide range of end applications, from smartphones to home entertainment, network and connectivity, automated driving, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
This is where MediaTek Singapore’s team of ~300 R&D engineers comes in. With strong capabilities in multi-core processors, multimedia, Radio Frequency (RF), and mixed-signal design, the team is working on some of MediaTek’s most cutting edge products for the wireless communication, consumer electronics and IoT market. MediaTek has also established an Innovation Center, leveraging on Singapore’s vibrant startup ecosystem and Smart Nation blueprint to develop Smart Home, Smart Health, and Smart City solutions. This is all part of the S$250 million investment that MediaTek has committed to expanding its operations in Singapore between 2014 to 2020.
MediaTek has strong research collaboration with local universities and has also set up a new MediaTek Endowment Professorship in IC Design with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to build up a strong base of technical talent in Singapore.
Besides R&D, Singapore also serves as MediaTek’s regional hub for logistics and manufacturing operations, as well as its IT operations and management centre for the Asia Pacific region.
