Some of its key operations include:
- SATS eCommerce AirHub
SATS became the first ground handler in the region to operate an automated airside eCommerce facility in April 2017. This has increased its throughput and process up to 1,800 mailbags per hour - more than threefold the capacity of previous manual processes. Through electronic integration and efficient data transfer between SATS’ and SingPost’s systems, e-commerce shipments can be loaded more quickly onto outbound flights. All this is expected to yield a productivity gain of over 30% when the facility is fully operational.
- SATS Coolport
SATS established SATS Coolport, a S$16.5m, 8,000sqm building with different temperature zones ranging from -28oC to 25oC to cater to a wide range of products requiring customised temperatures for storage. SATS Coolport is the world’s first ground handler to receive European Union approval as an authorised establishment for the provision of meat transhipment services between New Zealand and the EU. It has also become the transit point for 90% of the perishable goods that pass through Changi Airport, which is 10 minutes away from Coolport.
- SATS Technology Innovation Centre (TechnIC@SATS)
Technological innovations at SATS is not done the traditional top-down way, with innovations being pushed to operations. Instead, TechnIC@SATS adopts a people-led approach to deploying technology. It works collaboratively with business units on their transformation initiatives to enable greater efficiency and smart planning, focusing on three broad categories of technologies - Digital Business, Robotics and Internet of things (IoT). Since 2014, SATS has deployed robotics and automation such as the Flexible Assembly Line, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) and Automated Cutlery Sorter in its Food Solutions operations. It is now trialling innovations in gateway services.
